Hola familia como estan? What a week this was. FABULOUS. Can I just say I love you. Les quiero.
Irma mi amiga mejor ahorita...my best friend in El Paso is planning to be baptized ! She is incredible. An inspiration. I met her the first day I was here and saw something in her I haven't seen in anyone else. She recognizes the Holy Ghost. She recognizes she feels happy and doesn't know why. The best part is she listens to her feelings and is so commited. Her Husband is pretty Catholic and says she is free to choose, but he does not agree. The other day we were sitting under a tree in her backyard eating sandia and talking about her baptism, we got on the topic of the nature of our Heavenly Father. What we really think about him. Irma started to cry trying to express her love for her Heavenly Father. The coolest part is, I can see how much she loves Him by her actions. Actions are everything. She is an example to me. Hna Gomez in her MTC class did this activity where everyone took out a piece of paper and wrote what they think Heavenly Father is really like..to them. And not just the usual answers but what you really think...is he tall... What he looks like to you...how he is. How you know He loves you. You should all try it. It will help you realize what your Heavenly Father really means to you....and the things you want to know about him.
Thanks Mom for your letter. That really helped me put myself in the place of an investigator. And it was so cool...the other day we were out with Mayra a member who comes out with us all the time. She is about our age and is hoping to go to BYU wohoo! ...She suggested we go visit someone we'd seen with her before when all our apointments fell through and so we did. Miracle she was there and invited us in. Another miracle. She was sitting there with all her kids. We were starting to explain the Restoration and then I looked at the 15 year old girl eating dinner at the table and noticed she was really listening. I thought of you Mom and how your questions were about the Plan of Salvation. So I asked them what questions do you have? Do you know exactly where we come from and exactly where we are going? They said ya....they were interested so we began with the plan of slavation. They were some of the most well behaved kids i've ever taught...they listened and were quiet. Me encanta cuando el espiritu puede testificar :)
Maricela. Our new investigator of the week who came to church! Her neighbor is a member who we were eating with and she told us how she has been asking her a lot of questions but is Pentacostal. So this week we were over there and she came out. We started talking to her about how the Gospel blesses families...and she seemed really interested. We scheduled a time to come back and we taught her about the Restoration. She was like...I've never felt the presence of God. I don't know how. That is one of the hardest things sometimes. Because everyone feels it differently. But it is one of the keys to this life. Figure out how Heavenly Father leads you. And then follow what he says.
Yesterday we were sitting on in one of our investigator Sylvia's rooms with her two little baby boys and her 18 year old friend with her baby boy as well. Wow. It opens my eyes every time. These 2 girls younger than me with kids...trying to raise these boys on their own. Dealing with family problems desperately searching for work and not feeling like they have the time to pray....to go to church because they are doing everything they can to raise their boys on their own. Funny how the demands of the world keep us from doing the very thing that will help us overcome the hard stuff. Anyways, the reality is, I am so grateful for the principles i've been taught growing up. Because people find themselves in bad situations then are mad at God but we all pay the consequences of our decisions.
I continue in my journey to understand the Atonement and learn how to apply it more effectively. I read something from Henry B. Eyring that really stuck out to me. He said there came a point where he wanted to be confident that the Atonement was working in his life not just have hope that it was. He found his answer in Alma 5:14-15 and hoped to be able to hear what Alma 16 says...Read it. My testimony of the Atonement is strengthened every day because I have to give more to Him than I carry myself. The problems we all have and everyone else has he wants to help with more than we know. I know the Atonement is healing me. And I know it can heal you. Trust Him.
Si tiene deseo tiene todo para lograr una relacion con su padre celestial y su hijo jesucristo. Sus manos estan abiertas para ayudarnos. Pero nostros tenemos que alcanzar a ellos. Yo se que estoy sanando por medio servicio a mi padre celestial y mi salvador Jesucristo. Encontraran si mismo en el servicio de su Padre Celestial. Yo se que me quiere y que el va a estar con uds en todo si uds quieren.
