Buenas tardes. Aqui estoy con mi agua de platano y orchata :) I now live in a completely different world. I am in Horizon/Socorro Texas with Hermana Gomez. She is SO COOL, the typical laid back San Diego girl. Really I don't know how I keep getting so lucky . Life sure is different though. Hna Gomez is from San Diego but was raised in a 100% Mexican family. So she knows Spanish by hearing it. I know it by studying it. Its funny. She knows what to say but doesn't know why you say it. I am used to speaking Spanish all day long but now we cover an english ward and a spanish ward...everyone here practically speaks both Spanish and English...and I am the minority...there aren't very many white people compared to up north. So I am working on trying to speak Spanish all the time like I was with Hermana Batchkoff it takes some diligence...so I can get Hna Gomez to speak to me in Spanish. She is a really good missionary. Another thing...I really wish I was a camel. It is over 100 degrees every day. And we live on a brown golf course :) The people here are so nice.
My first day here, we went to teach a woman named Irma. They had taught her once before...she had just come to church because her daughter is a member. She took us to buy some carne asada burritos then we went back to her house and taught her a lesson about everything we had studied that morning. Understanding and listening to the Holy Ghost. It was an incredible lesson. Hna Gomez and I had never taught together before but the spirit just led us right along. It is incredible what happens when you leave things in the hands of the Lord and just trust him. Scriptures come to mind that bring people to tears or just make them think....When we were teaching Irma she just broke down in tears and told us how much she wanted to be baptized. WOW...is this really happening was my thought. She didn't have much support from her husband but after lots of prayers he said she could do whatever she wanted. We taught her and her son again the other night.
So when I got here there were like 3 Spanish investigators and like 10 investigators in Spanish. So there is lots to do! My whole mission I have been on the lookout for Spanish. Anytime there is anyone who speaks Spanish in the store...I try to talk to them. Here that would be like talking to every person I pass. So...Since i've been so accustomed to finding Spanish investigators we've found 2 new Spanish investigators this week. The Spanish ward is so cool. There are SO MANY PEOPLE...and they all SING :) It is awesome. There is a lot of potential here but there is SO MUCH TO DO...as usual. Im excited to see what we can do. Hermana Gomez is incredible. I am learning so much from her. And she speaks spanish like a real Mexican! The past 3 days a 19 year old girl named Mayra has come out with us. The member support here is very different. I love it! Mayra is incredible. She has been through so much and last night we had dinner with her family who has been through so much recently. The blessings of eternal families is incredible. Hermana Gomez and Mayra's family both have family members who are not active in the church...there are promises to those families who have been sealed in the temple...and to parents who do everything they can to live up to their covenants and live the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Gospel is so cool. There is so much hope. Today we were doing laundry and there was a woman who was working...I started talking to her and she was SO NICE. I started explaining we were missionaries...and what the Gospel of Jesus Christ is, she started to express how she didn't understand Heaven and infierno/hell. So hna gomez...esperame...she ran and grabbed her plan of salvation and right there we whipped out the answer. The Gospel is so clear. So simple. And it answers all the questions that need to be answered. I am so grateful to be a representative of this church more than anything of Jesus Christ. That is so much responsibility...and I hope every day i've done enough to make Him smile.
Connor gave me an update on family prayer!!! Bien Hecho familia. Les quiero mas que van a entender. A family who STRIVES to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ is a happy family.
Enjoy summer and be grateful for California :)
I know God lives. I know He guides his missionaries and I know he puts people in our lives for a reason.
Be happy.
